131010 TucsonMeetYourselfPima County enhances the lives of its residents in a multitude of ways, whether through health services, sustainability efforts or entertainment options.

They’ll all be featured at the Pima County Pavilion over the three-day Tucson Meet Yourself festival, starting Friday, Oct. 11, through Sunday, Oct. 13.

The big tent in front of the Joel D. Valdez Main Library provides a chance to get out of the sun for a bit and meet pets available for adoption from Pima Animal Care Center, check out sports and entertainment options available at Kino Sports Complex, or discover more about The Loop shared-use path, which was recently selected as the best bike ride by Tucson Weekly readers.

A stage schedule of formal presentations is attached, but there will be additional interactive attractions in the tent throughout the festival. The “Wheel of Wisdom,” for example, will spark discussion among youth and adults alike about how to prevent pollution and save resources. Natural Resources, Parks and Recreation will offer a “Living with Urban Wildlife” mobile exhibit with interactive exhibits to engage all ages. The Pima County Public Library will be on hand to talk about digital downloads, free classes and job help. And you’re invited to share your ideas to help us plan for the future through Pima Prospers.

FC Tucson Co-Owner and Chief Business Officer Chris Keeney will discuss the partnership between Pima County and FC Tucson and detail Pima County’s  investment in fields and facilities, which includes the new soccer stadium at the North Complex and FC Tucson’s home. The new 2,000 seat soccer stadium is scheduled to open in November.

Pima Animal Care Center also invites you to say hello to adoptable dogs looking for loving homes. Some dogs will be free, except for a $15 licensing fee. Others will be $60. But all will have vaccinations, microchips and spay/neuter surgery, as well as a license that’s good for a year. And if you don’t see the dog that’s right for your family, you can pick up a coupon good for $20 off any dog you find at our adoption center through the remainder of the year.

The schedule of events includes a vintage fashion show information on how to build an emergency preparedness kit, tips on healthy eating and activities designed to illustrate the impacts of smoking.  Schedule may be accessed at this link: http://webcms.pima.gov/cms/One.aspx?portalId=169&pageId=55152
